Preaching is a strange business. The very word preach has come to mean something we wish someone else would not do to us ("Don't preach to me!" "All I ever get from him is a sermon!"). 이 책은 기독교적 입장에서 가족치료에 접근한 것으로써 이 분야에서 한국에 소개된 얼마 되지 않는 책들 가운데 하나이다. 이 책의 내용은 가족치료를 신학적, 목회적 입장에서 어떻게 이해하고 수용할 것인가에 관련된 주제들을 다루고 있는데 저자가 Colgate Rochester Divinity School과 Crozer Theological Seminary 등 여러 곳에서 강의하고 발표했던 것들이다. 각 장마다 연관이 있으면서도 독립적인 주제를 다루고 있어서 어느 장을 먼저 읽더라도 큰 무리가 없다.
